From Table Mountain to Your TV: The Superyacht Foodie Adventures
Sitting here in sunny Antibes, it’s hard not to feel nostalgic.
Three years ago today, I was hiking up the breathtaking Table Mountain in South Africa, fresh from hosting our Superyacht Foodie event in Cape Town. Now, I’m deep into planning the final production schedule for the remaining episodes of our exciting new documentary series, set to premiere later this year.
Reflecting on the journey since that memorable Cape Town visit, it has been a whirlwind! Initially, we were in South Africa for an event hosted by the Finnish Foreign Ministry. It was an absolute privilege to attend, but little did I know just how pivotal that trip would turn out to be. Clearly, South Africa was meant to be!
The garden lunch that changed everything…
One afternoon during our stay, I received an invitation to a charming garden restaurant just outside the city, a perfect hidden gem. When travelling, one of my favourite things to do is find all the culinary gems that locals recommend. Enjoying the warm sunshine, surrounded by lush greenery and the soft buzz of conversation, I found myself chatting with a well-connected local businessman intrigued by our mission at Superyacht Foodie.
As I described how we connect yacht chefs and provisioning agents with extraordinary, sustainably produced food and drinks, I saw that the concept truly resonated with him. That casual lunch turned into a collaboration with Red Pepper Pictures, and suddenly, the seeds for our very own Superyacht Foodie Adventures series were planted. It is amazing how one simple conversation can spark something so special.
Turning a vision into reality…
Fast forward to today, and we have already filmed half of our six-episode series! It has taken us to unbelievable locations, highlighting remarkable food producers from all around the world. From Finland to France and beyond – with Italy next on our schedule.
Each episode explores the fascinating stories behind these exceptional products and the superyacht industry: the heritage, the passion, and the commitment to quality. Whether it is sustainably sourced seafood from the Nordic seas or artisanal cheeses from picturesque French villages, these ingredients carry generations of expertise and dedication.
A taste of life onboard…
Our series is more than an exploration of food. It is an immersion into the vibrant world of superyachting itself – the industry I love so dearly. The magnificent vessels, dedicated crew, charming personalities, stunning locations, and of course, extraordinary cuisine are all integral parts of this lifestyle.
We have captured incredible moments where our sourcing chefs collaborate with yacht chefs to craft memorable culinary experiences onboard. Watching them transform our carefully selected ingredients into masterpieces has been genuinely inspiring and has taken me back to my chef days.
Filming has taken us to iconic yachting destinations like Athens, Split, San Remo, Monaco, Beaulieu-sur-Mer, and Cannes. These places are not merely backdrops; they are essential to understanding the luxurious standards and experiences that define the superyacht industry, especially when it comes to food.
Luxury with a purpose…
At the heart of this TV series is the commitment to showcasing sustainable, rare, and exquisite food and drink choices. It is about aligning modern luxury values with responsible, sustainable sourcing.
Reflecting on this journey, from that sunlit garden lunch in Cape Town to filming across Europe, I am filled with gratitude. Thank you to every producer, chef, crew member, and supporter who has helped bring our vision to life.
As we continue filming, I am reminded how far we have come since standing on Table Mountain three years ago. The Superyacht Foodie experience has blossomed beyond anything I could have imagined, and I cannot wait to share this journey with you all soon!
